Muncie father-to-be gunned down inside his home

MUNCIE, Ind (WISH) — An 18-year old father-to-be was gunned down inside his own home. It happened Thursday night around 11 p.m.

Muncie police are zeroing in on three men who they believe are connected to the shooting that killed Christian Orebaugh. The suspects are still at large, but police are confident, they’ll track them down.

As for the victim, according to Twitter, it looks like he and his girlfriend were expecting a child.

On Twitter, a tweet reads: “I cannot believe the father of my unborn child is gone. Please pray for his family and I. I need it more than ever.”

A grieving girlfriend after Orebaugh was killed. Police believe the suspects barged into Orebaugh’s home, shooting him in the torso. Neighbors reported hearing, what they believed to be fireworks, but it wasn’t.

“It’s tragic because he’s only 18 years old — that happens this day in age,” said Ed Cox who rents a home in the neighborhood.

When police arrived on the scene, Orebaugh was dead and the suspects had fled. Police say a man who was staying with Orebaugh saw the suspects running from the house. They say at least one other person witnessed the suspects fleeing the scene.

“I lived here 13 to 14 years and never had… you hear gun fire every once in awhile, especially on New Year’s Eve after midnight, but not shooting and killing,” said Mitch Teal, who lives nearby.

Authorities don’t know the motive, but they say there were signs of drug dealing at the home. They said they found drug paraphernalia, scales and plastic baggies. Neighbors are less concerned about why it happened, and more concerned with the suspects being found.

“I want him found. I’d do anything I can to help find him for this area,” said Cox.

“I hope they find out who did this and catch the guy so that he doesn’t do it again,” added Teal.

Police say that Orebaugh did not have a criminal record in Delaware County.
