Officer injured in scuffle with suspect
BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY (WISH) – A Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured in a scuffle with a suspect early Friday.
The officer was called to a battery complaint on Friday morning. When he arrived, he found a male subject who refused to get out of a car.
The officer opened the car door, only to find the male suspect holding a flare gun between his legs.
At that time, police say the officer and suspect got into a physical tussle over the flare gun.
The suspect pulled the trigger, but the bottom of the officer’s hand was caught between the hammer and the primer of the gun, which kept the gun from discharging. Instead, the officer received a small puncture wound to his thumb before wrestling the suspect to the ground.
Later, the officer was able to drive himself to Columbus Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.
