Biden nominates former US Sen. Joe Donnelly of Indiana as ambassador to Vatican

WASHINGTON (WISH) — President Joe Biden has chosen Joe Donnelly, a former U.S. senator from Indiana, to be the next ambassador to the Vatican.

The White House on Friday afternoon confirmed the choice.

Donnelly is a lifelong Catholic who graduated from the University of Notre Dame.

The Indiana Democrat served six years in the Senate before losing to Mike Braun in 2018.

Donelly’s nomination must still be confirmed by the Senate.
