Search underway for owner of necklace filled with ashes found at Siesta Key
SIESTA KEY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Sarasota man is hoping the power of social media will help him return a necklace full of ashes to its rightful owner.
Shawn Rauch was out in the water at Siesta Key on Sunday when he found a necklace that contains the ashes of someone’s mother. The necklace is a silver ball featuring heart shapes and the word “Mom.” The pendant is on a silver chain.
Rauch is a metal detectorist and was neck-deep in the water when he found the necklace. He posted a picture of it on Facebook Monday afternoon in hopes it would reach the owner. It’s been shared nearly 1,000 times already.
Rauch says he’s been metal detecting for six years. He says he’s never found a necklace of ashes before but has found and returned other jewelry to people, including wedding rings and a Rolex.
