TSA finds loaded gun at IND

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Transportation Security Administration discovered a loaded gun at an Indianapolis International Airport checkpoint Wednesday morning.

Officials say around 10:45 a.m., a loaded Kel-Tec .380 pistol was found in a passenger’s carry-on bag. TSA alerted Airport Police, who took the bag and escorted the passenger out of the area.

Airport officials say firearms can be transported in checked baggage, so long as they’re declared to the airline, put in a proper carrying case and unloaded, but they’re prohibited in carry-on bags.

This was the fifth gun discovered at an IND security checkpoint this year, according to officials. Fifty were found at IND in 2015. That was up from 25 in 2014.
