Voting machine breaks at northwest side polling location

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A voting machine at a northwest side polling location broke after the the very first vote of the day was cast.

The incident happened at the Marquette Manor senior living facility when the feeding portion of the machine jammed. The machine jammed as the second ballot was being fed through it.

Election officials say the part to fix the machine is on the way.

The jammed machine isn’t necessarily delaying everyone voting at that location. If people are willing, they can leave their ballot in an enclosed box and the poll inspector will put them through. A Republican judge and a Democrat judge will watch as the inspector inserts those ballots.

Several people weren’t comfortable leaving their ballot and decided to wait and watch to make sure their ballot is fed through the machine, including a man who was third in line to vote and has been there since 5:30 a.m.
