Women arrested, accused of stealing donation money from humane society

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Two women accused of stealing from the Hamilton County Humane Society have been arrested.

The organization and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office had been looking for the two, who officials say stole money from a donation box at the shelter.

According to the Humane Society, the women came in on April 1 around 8 a.m. to surrender two small kittens. The facility had just opened at the time and the front door staff had to step away for a moment to care for one of the pets in the lobby.

Officials say the women took money from the donation box and drove away. Employees weren’t sure exactly how much money was taken, but estimated it was more than $50.

In the days after, police received a number of tips about who the women were and where they might be. On April 2, officers made a traffic stop and took the two women, identified as 28-year-old Heather Michelle Griffith and 23-year-old Amber Lynn Iliff into custody.

The women from Noblesville were both preliminarily charged with theft.
