Local organization offers women in STEM scholarships, grants
This local organization is giving back to the STEM community in a big way! Angela B. Freeman, president, Women and Hi-Tech joined us this morning to talk about their 2020 Leading Light Award & Scholarship Gala. Here’s more from her:
The Leading Light Awards and Scholarship Gala (LLAs) will be held on October 1, 2020 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom (noting the venue/format may change based on social distancing requirements in the fall).
This signature, biennial event organized and hosted by Women & Hi Tech focuses on celebrating Indiana women in STEM – women who are risk-takers, leaders, educators, mentors, and those who are changing our local STEM landscape.
In honor of this 20th Anniversary of the first Leading Light Award event, Women & Hi Tech pledged to award at least $20,000 of scholarships and grants to women and girls in Indiana pursuing STEM through our #LLA20for20 campaign. With special support from our Partners and Friends in the Indiana STEM community, Women & Hi Tech has exceeded our goal, and will be awarding over $35,000 in scholarships and grants to women and girls pursuing STEM Fields in Indiana! Deadline for Leading Light scholarship and grant applications is July 1, 2020.
New this year at the 2020 LLAs, Women & Hi Tech will honor our male allies, as well as our diversity, equity, and inclusion champions. Deadline for Leading Light award applications is June 1, 2020.
We recognize that in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hoosier women in STEM need academic and career support now more than ever. To respond to the growing need in our Indiana community, Women & Hi Tech has established its first ever member-funded Leading Light Award scholarship for Indiana women in STEM – The Women & Hi Tech #INThisTogether scholarship!
Upcoming Virtual Event:
We are hosting an #INThisTogether Virtual Spring Networking House Party via Zoom. Our members can come network, mingle, and party like a rock star with Women & Hi Tech members in the comfort of their very own home. This is happening on June, 16 at 5 p.m.
