Hundreds of animals available for adoption at Mega Adoption

If you’re looking to add a new furry friend to your family, we have just the event for you!

More than 1,000 dogs and cats from 26 area animal shelter and rescue organizations will be up for adoption at the Indy Mega-Adoption Event on June 20 and June 21. The event offers more than 1,000 cats and dogs for low-cost, same-day adoptions. The adoptable animals are a variety of ages, sizes and breeds. They are already fixed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. The adoption fee is $30, which is less than half the price normally charged in some area shelters. Pets will go home with their new owners the same day.

Led by FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic, the Indy Mega-Adoption Event is the largest two-day event of its kind in Indiana. It is an initiative of the Love Me.Fix Me campaign which is supported by the Nina Mason Charitable Trust to educate pet owners and increase spay/neuter rates in Marion and the surrounding counties.

Leaders say they have been neutering as many as 75 animals a day at FACE for more than 16 years, resulting in the fewest animals euthanized in the city’s history. They add that the adoption event places even more cats and dogs into safe and loving homes, and out of local shelters.

Last year, FACE held two Indy Mega-Adoption Events, resulting in close to 2,000 dogs and cats adopted into Central Indiana homes. A second event in 2015 is scheduled for October.

Since opening in early 1999, the FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic has made a dramatic impact in Marion County. FACE has performed more than 215,000 spay and neuter surgeries, a key factor in reducing the city’s pet overpopulation. In addition to offering accessible and affordable medical services, FACE also works with dedicated volunteers to sustain neutered community cat colonies, support the Indy Pet Food Pantry and conduct outreach to under-served neighborhoods.
