Alcohol may be a factor in crash with injuries

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) Investigators believe alcohol and speeding could have led to a crash in Steuben County where two people were airlifted to a hospital in Fort Wayne.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, on Friday around 11 p.m. deputies were called to State Road 120, just west of County Road 175 W. Investigators found a vehicle in the ditch south of the road, against a tree.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WANE, the driver, Travis Crager 36, of Angola and the passenger, Nicholas Vancuren, 26, of Freemont, were both able to get out of the vehicle before emergency responders arrived. Crager was airlifted to the hospital with a leg and facial injury. Vancuren was also airlifted to the hospital with a head injury.

Investigators determined Crager missed a curve and went off the road into a ditch and then the car hit the tree head on. Police believe neither passengers were wearing their seatbelt at the time. They said the airbags did deploy.

The crash remains under investigation.
