Bond denied for Indiana man accused of killing, eating ex-girlfriend
JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) – A judge has denied bond for a southern Indiana man accused of killing his former girlfriend and eating some of her internal organs.
The News and Tribune reports Clark Circuit Judge Vicki Carmichael denied 34-year-old Joseph Oberhansley’s request Wednesday for pretrial release. The Jeffersonville man is charged with murder, rape and abuse of a corpse in the September 2014 slaying of 46-year-old Tammy Jo Blanton.
Oberhansley was out of jail on $500 bond when Blanton’s death occurred. A miscommunication in the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office had reduced his bond from $25,000 full cash.
Clark County Prosecutor Jeremy Mull says Oberhansley “most definitely, needs to stay in jail. He is a danger to our community.”
Oberhansley could be sentenced to death if convicted. His trial is scheduled for August 2016.
