SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — Police in Speedway are searching for a woman who is accused of stealing from local first responders.
According to Speedway Police Department, members of the Speedway Fire Department were at Kroger purchasing groceries when they were called to an emergency Sunday morning. The firefighters left a cart full of groceries, along with a cash bag, in the cart at the front of the store before they all rushed out. The money inside the cash bag was their own they had pooled together in order to purchase the items, police say.
The firefighters told store employees they would return for the items.
After the emergency call was over, the firefighters went back to the Kroger to retrieve their groceries and discovered the cart was no longer where they left it.
Surveillance video showed a woman pushing the firefighters’ cart full of items out of the store. The woman was wearing blue jeans, a gray sweatshirt, knee-high black boots and a white head scarf.
Anyone with information about the woman is asked to contact Detective Joe Harmon at 317-246-4340 or leave an anonymous tip at 317-246-5300.
