Driver killed in crash attempting to evade deputies in Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – One person is dead following a Wednesday morning crash in Madison County, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies say they were attempting to stop a speeding vehicle traveling westbound at more than 100 mph on State Road 67 near County Road 300 East just before 3 a.m.

However, instead of complying with deputies, the vehicle turned north on 300 East, then east on Mounds Road and eventually turned around at a dead end.

The vehicle continued to evade deputies, but due to the dangerous speeds and curvy roads, the chase was terminated.

Deputies say the driver of the vehicle eventually lost control, went off the road and struck a tree just west of Mounds State Park.

An 18-year-old passenger was found near the vehicle and was taken to the hospital in fair condition.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene.
