Police: ‘Millionaire shoplifter’ sold stolen items on eBay

Millionaire Shoplifter’

Ryan Walker, 35, is accused of selling more than $1.1 million worth of stolen goods on his eBay store.

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) — A prolific eBay seller dubbed the “millionaire shoplifter” by police was charged with at least nine felony counts, according to court documents obtained by News 8.

Ryan Walker, 35, opened an eBay business account in 2010. Until his arrest in 2019, he collected payments from international buyers exceeding $1.1 million, police said.

Products he sold had been shoplifted from various “big box” retailers in Fishers, including Target, according to charging documents.

Fishers police launched an “extensive” shoplifting investigation in March, officials said, and identified Walker with the help of federal authorities and area retailers.

He remained incarcerated Monday night at the Hamilton County Jail, according to online jail records.

Walker faces one count of corrupt business influence and eight counts of delivering a false sales document, according to Hamilton County Circuit Court records. Authorities called him a “habitual offender.”

Trial is scheduled to begin October 1.

Walker’s defense attorney, Brad Banks, declined to comment.

Matthew Jaworowski, another longtime eBay seller in Fishers, said it was “incredible” the defendant had run a hugely profitable business on the website.

“A guy’s gotta make his dollar,” he said. “But you think of it as the online yard sale.”

Ryan Moore, a spokesperson for eBay, emailed a statement to News 8 in response to requests for comment.

“It is an unfortunate fact that with any channel of commerce, criminals try to beat the system,” the statement said. “Stolen goods are illegal and not welcome on the eBay marketplace, and we continue to be proactive and collaborative with both retailers and law enforcement to stop retail theft.”
