Greenwood police: Man detained after killing 70-year-old mother

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — Officials in Greenwood are investigating after they believe a man killed his mother.

Police were called to the home Friday night just after 11:50 p.m. in the 300 block of Heritage Drive after the the suspect’s brother contacted him and told him he killed their mother.

Officers later found 70-year-old Carla Hatton dead on scene. The suspect, 49-year-old John Hatton Jr., was also found in the residence with what police are calling a self inflicted wound to the neck.

The suspect was later transported to the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital for treatment where he is currently being held inside the psychiatric unit.

The case remains under investigation.
