Indiana law firms pay for free cab rides New Year’s Eve

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH/AP) – Multiple law firms in Indiana will pay to keep people safe on New Year’s Eve.

Carmel law firm Stewart and Stewart will pay a taxi ride up to $20 between 10 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday. It’s part of its safe and sober program.

Taxi rides must be to homes or hotels, not to another place to drink. Participants are asked to submit an online voucher before the holiday. Click here for the law firm’s website and a link to the voucher.

An Evansville law firm will also be paying for New Year’s cab rides home for the 18th year in a row.

The Evansville Courier and Press reports that Woods and Woods firm will pay for rides within Evansville and Vanderburgh County limits. Rides will be offered from 11 p.m. on Thursday, New Year’s Eve, through 4 a.m. on Friday, New Year’s Day. Riders should arrange with Unity Taxi and say that the firm is paying for the cost of the ride.

Law firm spokesman Steve Woods says the firm knows providing safe rides is important because it has handled so many drunken driving cases. Woods says attorneys have “seen the toll that drunken drivers take on our community.”

Indiana State Police say there will be extra troopers on roadways Thursday night too.
