Kinetrex supplying UPS with natural gas

INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — Indianapolis-based Kinetrex Energy has entered into an agreement with UPS to supply the company’s trucks with millions of gallons of renewable natural gas. The deal calls for Kinetrex to supply 52.5 million gallons of RNG from its Indianapolis RNG plant to be used in some UPS vehicles throughout the Midwest. The RNG will be used to fuel fleets in Indianapolis, Chicago, Toledo, Columbus and St. Louis. The agreement also allows the company to supply UPS another 50 million gallons over the same period as Kinetrex develops other RNG plants.

Kinetrex plans to use RNG from its Indy High BTU plant, which is a landfill facility currently under construction on the south side of Indianapolis. Construction is set to be completed in March, which would allow the company to convert landfill methane to natural gas. Kinetrex claims the natural gas made from methane will reduce enough greenhouse gas emissions to equal the removal of 19,000 passenger cars from roadways.

“This innovative agreement with UPS speaks directly to our company’s commitment to use alternative fuels in an effort to ensure cleaner air quality,” said Aaron Johnson, CEO of Kinetrex Energy. “UPS has been a great partner of Kinetrex and we look forward to working with its team on this project and on future RNG procurement opportunities.”
