Kyle Schwarber: From Hoosier to Cubbie
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The World Series spotlight is focused squarely on Kyle Schwarber. This after Schwarber helped the Chicago Cubs tie the World Series at 1-1.
Schwarber’s impact can be felt beyond the baseball field. In early April it appeared that Schwarber’s season was over.
After he suffered a knee injury, tearing his ACL and LCL, it appeared his 2016 campaign would not even get off the ground. However, during the World Series, Schwarber swung his bat and showed the world he was back.
He hit a double in the first game, he had two hits and an RBI in the second game.
“If you told me he was going to take 250 days off from baseball, and show up against one of the best pitchers in baseball and hit a double off the wall and get two runs battled in I would not of believed you,” said Jeremy Gray, IU Associate Athletic Director.
Gray called play by play for IU Baseball team during the years Schwarber played for the Hoosiers. During that time, Schwarber, a Baseball All-American helped the Hoosier to winning records, Big Ten Titles and even a run in the College World Series.
“Never had we ever had a player that struck so much fear into opposing teams, he was clearly a crowd favorite,” said Gray.
Gray hopes Schwarber can showcase some more magic in his bat to help the Cubs win the World Series.
