Paws on the Patio hopes to help rescue dogs find forever homes

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Several Indianapolis businesses are coming together Sunday for the first ever Paws on the Patio — an event aimed at helping rescue dogs find their forever homes.

Pier 48 Fish House & Oyster Bar in downtown Indianapolis is hosting the event which will feature around 10 dogs that are all up for adoption by either The Four Legged Ranch or Helping Paws rescue centers.

There will also be a silent auction and items for sale to help fund dogs in need with medical care.

“Adoptions were up during COVID-19, but we didn’t have the ability to hold any fundraising events,” said director of The Four Legged Ranch Nancy Hoffman.

During the event, attendees can visit with the dogs, fill out application forms and schedule home visits. Hoffman says the process can be done quickly.

“You won’t leave today with a dog, but today is really about finding that connection,” Hoffman said.

Keith Stucker, who owns 48 Fish House & Oyster Bar, says he’s been getting creative with bringing customers into his restaurant during the pandemic.

“This helps the dogs and events like this help us. We’re really grateful to be hosting these dogs and working with organizations that do so much good work,” said Stucker.

The event is sponsored by Metazoa Brewing Company, Titos Handmade Vodka, Patron, and Buffalo Trace and Stucker says guests can order brunch and also listen to live jazz while hanging with the pups.
