Pike Township reaches no deal with teachers on pay raise
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — After a bargaining meeting Tuesday night, Pike Township School District still has reached no deal with the Pike Classroom Teacher’s Association (PCTA) on raising pay for teachers, according to the district.
In a statement to I-Team 8, the District says, “Negotiations with the Pike Classroom Teacher Association are ongoing, as a result, we are unable to provide additional comment at this time.”
In a document sent by Pike Township Superintendent, Dr. Flora J. Reichanadter, to Pike teachers and obtained by I-Team 8, Reichanadter says, “a tentative agreement must be reached by November 5, 2021 to meet the statutory deadlines for ratification. We hope that an agreement can be reached prior to the next phase of negotiations—mediation and ordered fact-finding—which will commence after November 15, 2021.”
PCTA President Chris Ludy told I-Team 8 on Tuesday that the District was offering $2.3 million in raises. It would equal pay hikes of 4.6%. However, teachers are asking for closer to a 7% pay raise, which is less than some surrounding districts have received.
Ludy says he could not endorse teachers calling out. I-Team 8 reached out to Ludy to see what the Association’s next steps would be, but did not hear back yet.
