18 new flu deaths in Indiana this week; seasonal total at 87
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Health officials say 18 new deaths related to the flu have been reported in Indiana this week, bringing the total number to 87 for the season.
The state’s activity is widespread, and 48 deaths have been recorded in people 65 and older, according to State Department of Health.
The department also said 16 of this week’s deaths were in Marion County, and there have been five schoolwide outbreaks this season.
Indiana recorded 53 flu deaths last season, according to the report released on March 8, 2019. In the 2018-2019 season, Indiana flu deaths totaled 113, including 16 in Marion County, according to the Department of Health.
