Motorcyclist dies after colliding with ISP vehicle

PORTAGE/PORTER COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A motorcyclist died Friday night after crashing into an Indiana State Police patrol car on the Indiana Toll Road near the Portage Toll Plaza.

The crash happened at 9:30 p.m. Indiana State Police Trooper Jathan Rose was making a U-turn when a motorcycle, driven by 28-year-old Michael Damore, of Highland, Indiana, hit the passenger side of the police car, a release from ISP said.

Rose got out of his car and gave Damore chest compression until he was relieved by a sergeant. The release said Portage EMS arrived on the scene about an hour after the wreck occurred.

Damore was transported to Portage Community Hospital. The exact time of Damore’s death was not made clear in the release, but it said he died after being removed from the scene.

An initial investigation revealed Damore was operating the motorcycle with a suspended driver’s license, and the motorcycle was not registered.

Westbound lanes of the toll road were closed at 10:30 p.m. for investigation. The lanes reopened about four hours later.
