Pipe bombs found after blast at Indiana post office; 1 hurt

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (WISH) – The FBI is leading an investigation into Wednesday’s explosion inside a U.S. post office that injured a female, The Times of Northwest Indiana reports.

The female postal worker was taken to St. Catherine Hospital, FBI Special Agent Bob Ramsey told The Times. Her condition was not known as of late Wednesday night.

The Associated Press reported that authorities in East Chicago, Indiana, said two pipe bombs were found at a post office following a possible explosion.

Fire Chief Anthony Serna told AP that the fire department received a call about a possible explosion around 6 p.m., the time the post office closes.

Police officers with dogs from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department were at the scene investigating the incident, AP reported. Officials said investigators from U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were to join the investigation into the incident.
