Police: Mom overdosed and rolled onto baby son, killing him

LUMBERTON, N.J. (WCMH) — Authorities say a 13-month-old child is dead after his mother overdosed and rolled on top of him.

Antoinette King, 33, was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, after the Burlington County prosecutor says she was found overdosed on top of him inside their home.

Emergency responders revived Antoinette King with Narcan, but after trying CPR on Jeremiah, he remained unresponsive.

He was taken to Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly where he was pronounced dead from apparent suffocation.

Neighbors tell KYW-TV it was Jeremiah’s grandmother, who also lived inside the home, who found the toddler and his mother unresponsive and called police.

“The grandmother is just purely out of it. I know she is. I know she has to be,” said neighbor Chandra Williams.

Now funeral arrangements are underway for a boy who neighbors describe as a tough toddler.

“He was a premature baby. So he went through all the prematurity and now he’s not here anymore,” neighbor Lynn Ingram told KYW-TV

An autopsy on the baby is scheduled to be performed Monday.
