Victim dies after double shooting outside Fort Wayne nightclub

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – One of the two men who were injured in a shooting early Sunday near the Marketplace of Canterbury has died. He was pronounced dead at a hospital around 3:30 a.m. Preliminary autopsy findings showed the cause of death was from a gunshot wound, and at this time the manner of death has been ruled a homicide, according to the Allen County Coroner.

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded in the 5600 block of St. Joe Road around 3 a.m. Two men were injured in a parking lot as hundreds were leaving a nightclub, according to police spokesperson Chris Felton, according to 24-Hour News 8’s sister station WANE-TV.

Police officers working security were breaking up a small fight as the club closed. Felton said, moments later officers heard gunshots in the crowd. They found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victims were taken to a hospital in critical condition and good condition. The name of the man who died will be released at a later time.

Police are looking into the relationship of the victims. Investigators don’t know if the victims were involved in any of the fights. Police don’t have any suspect descriptions or information. Officers are interviewing witnesses and looking into any possible surveillance videos from surrounding areas.

This is the third homicide ruling by the Allen County Coroner in 2015.
