West side gas station clerk critical after attempted robbery, shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis gas station clerk is recovering after he was shot during an attempted robbery early Friday morning.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the Speedway gas station at 10th Street and Girls School Road just before 3:30 a.m.

Police said the 21-year-old clerk ran to McDonald’s after being shot, but he was unable to find help. He managed to get someone’s attention at a Taco Bell across the street from the gas station.

The man was taken to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Detectives say the suspect is a black man around 5 feet 10 inches tall, around 230 pounds and with facial hair. He was wearing a black hat and black sweatshirt at the time of the shooting.

He’s considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his location should call 911.
