Indy Eleven’s six-game undefeated streak ends

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Ottawa Fury FC took advantage of several opportunities given to them by Indy Eleven, capitalizing on three set piece chances en route to a 4-2 victory at TD Place.

Ottawa captain Richie Ryan tallied directly off two of those dead ball opportunities, while defender Rafael Alves opened the scoring on another and Tom Heinemann added a counter-attack strike in the second half, countering goals from Indy Eleven’s Don Smart and Judson McKinney. The result ended Indy Eleven’s undefeated streak at five games, while Ottawa improved its own unbeaten run to eight contests.

Sunday’s result pushed Indy Eleven squarely into the middle of both the NASL’s Fall Season and combined season standings, “Indiana’s Team” now sits in sixth place on both (1W-1D-1L, 4 pts. in Fall; 4W-5D-4L, 17 pts. combined).

The “Boys in Blue” can gain some ground on the top of the table this Saturday, July 25, when they take on Spring Season champion New York Cosmos (21 pts., 2nd place on combined table) – featuring Spanish superstar striker Raul – at IUPUI’s Carroll Stadium. Kickoff on “Christmas in July” Night is set for 7:30 p.m. live on WISH-TV.
