Steinberger strikes sail Indy Eleven past Armada

INDIANAPOLIS — Riding the strength of its offense, Indy Eleven secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Jacksonville Armada FC.

Eleven striker Zach Steinberger paced the home side with his first two goals of the year – both set up by midfielder Don Smart – while Marvin Ceballos came off the bench to punctuate an offensive outburst that overwhelmed the visiting Armada.

In net, starting goalkeeper Keith Cardona was stout, snuffing out all three Jacksonville shots on target to collect his first professional win and clean sheet in his fifth start for Indy – and second placement in the starting XI this week. His best stop on the evening was a highlight reel save against Armada FC midfielder Marcos Flores in the 52nd minute, when he steered the Jacksonville captain’s shot destined for the left post around for a corner with a leaping save.

Following a road tilt against the San Antonio Scorpions in the Lone Star state next Saturday, September 12, the “Boys in Blue” return to Carroll Stadium on Saturday, September 19, for a 7:30 p.m. clash against FC Edmonton. First kick at “The Mike” for the team’s Oktoberfest celebration, presented by Murello’s Uptown Bail Bonds, is set for 7:30 p.m.
