Youth vs. Experience: Patriots have built-in edge at the Big Game
It’s a classic battle between experience and youth in Super Bowl LIII.
When it comes to NFL trials and tribulations at the top, the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams couldn’t be much more different.
The Rams are the hot shots led by a young, offensive-minded coach. While the Patriots are the grizzled, veterans making their ninth Super Bowl appearance since 2001.
Regardless of age, Rams coach Sean McVay and his quarterback Jared Goff will try to knock off the dynasty of the Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Tom Brady at Mercedes-Benz Stadium Sunday
Starting with the coaches, Belichick doubles up McVay in age at 66 years old. McVay, the youngest ever to coach in the Super Bowl, is just 33 years old.
Belichick will be going for his sixth Super bowl title as a head coach, but both are great minds of the game and both ready to take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
“Obviously, a lot of attention has been made of your age— only 33 getting to this stage?” said a reporter.
“Is that right? I hadn’t heard that. I solely focus on trying to win the game against an excellent team that’s been doing it as well as anybody over the past handful years,” McVay said.
“Sean, as a head coach, is responsible for the overall team. He’s done a great job and they are a very good team in all three phases of the game,“ Belichick said.
As for the quarterbacks, Tom Brady, 41 years of age, is arguably the greatest of all time and getting better with age making his third straight Super Bowl appearance. For the Rams, Jared Goff, at 24, was just seven years old when Brady won his first Super Bowl.
“My role is to play quarterback, that is where my energy is focused. That is probably the only thing I can do well for this team,” Brady said.
”Tremendous player and a guy that I have so much respect for doing it for so long, but I’ll be looking forward to playing their defense, just like I’m sure he will be looking forward to playing ours,” Golf said.
McVay, who is a native of Atlanta, was a sophomore playing high school football in Georgia when Brady and Belichick won their first Super Bowl XXXVI in 2001.
