Sam’s 2020 documentary Sonnie was based on single father and weightlifting competitor Deon “Sonnie” Case. The documentary won an audience’s choice award at the 2020 Heartland Indy Shorts Film Festival.
Sam is working on a new documentary and updates us on the projects he’s working on and how life has changed for him – since his association with Heartland Film. In 2017, his first doc-short, Little Warriors, which tells the story about youth activism in the space of climate policy, was a Grand Prize Winner at the Academy Award-Qualifying, Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis.
