Irvington Halloween Festival celebrates 70 years
Spooks for 70 years, can you believe it?! The 70th annual Historic Irvington Halloween Festival brings together thousands of residents, dozens of neighborhood organizations, and countless Eastside businesses for a fun-filled, week-long celebration of our heritage and community.
The festival will take place from Saturday Oct. 22 – Saturday Oct. 29, where people of all ages can find something to do. Events include:
• Pumpkin Carving Contest – Saturday Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
• Masquerade Ball – Saturday Oct. 22 from 8 p.m. – Midnight
• Spooky Organ Concert – Sunday Oct. 23
• Slightly Haunted Puppet Show – Monday Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
• Movie Night at The Irving – Wednesday Oct. 26
• Spooky Stories – Thursday Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
• A Night Out in Sleepy Hollow – Thursday Oct. 27
• Zombie Bike Ride – Friday Oct. 28 at 7:15 p.m.
• Pleasant Run Run – Saturday Oct. 29
• Street Fair – Saturday Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Carnival After Party – Saturday Oct. 29
The first Irvington Halloween parade was in 1927. Adults and children dressed up as ghouls and goblins as they marched down Washington Street to celebrate the haunted holiday. In 1946, the Irvington Business Men’s Association created the Irvington Halloween Festival, signaling the first official year for the event and sponsored it for the next 19 years.

The Irvington Halloween Festival is organized by the Historic Community Council, a 501(c)3 organization that provides a voice to the town of Irvington, Ind. on issues such as public services, zoning and works to improve the community and the lives of its residents. Started on October 31, 1927 a parade of masked and costumed adults and children marched down historic Highway 40, led by the Indianapolis Military Band. Eighty-seven years later, adults, children and pets alike participate in the yearly tradition and additional events developed throughout the years.
