3 Boilermakers bring home Olympic medals
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) — Olympians from Purdue University brought home four medals, including one gold.
The gold medal was a historic feat, as alumna Amanda Elmore became the first female Boilermaker to ever win gold. She was part of the women’s eight rowing team.
Elmore, who began rowing in 2009, also became the fifth Boilermaker to take the gold since 1900.
The other medal winners were alumnus David Boudia and current student Steele Johnson, who both won silver medals for synchronized diving. Boudia also won bronze in the individual 10 meter platform diving.
Boudia won gold in the individual event in 2012 London Olympics as well.
The silver medal is the first ever medal for Johnson, who is an Indianapolis native.
