Amateur boxing event raises money for fight against Parkinson’s disease
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Fighting for a purpose was the goal of an event in Indianapolis.
Friday evening was the Second Annual Friday Night Fights with Golden Gloves event. It took place at the Rock Steady Boxing Gym on Hillsdale Court.
All of the proceeds benefit the gym’s fight against Parkinson’s disease.
“I think we have a kid that’s seven years old and going have his first fight. Most of them are younger fighters up-and-coming, hungry fighters. They don’t get a lot of opportunity here in the midwest so we’re happy to put on a sanctioned event, make some money off of it and have a good time,” said Katy Rose, program director.
Last year they raised $10,000 for the fight against Parkinson’s.
The event also featured Frank Martin, the first fighter from Indianapolis to win the Golden Gloves national title since 1984.
