Condolences, support offered after Boone County sheriff’s deputy shot

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Law enforcement agencies around Indiana expressed their condolences and support for a Boone County sheriff’s deputy shot while assisting police with a pursuit in Lebanon on Friday morning.

On Friday afternoon, Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen announced Deputy Jacob Pickett would not survive his injuries and that his organs would be donated.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, which was assisting Indiana State Police with a press conference regarding the deputy, expressed their support for the sheriff’s office with a quotation from the Bible.

Gov. Eric Holcomb offered the following statement regarding Boone County Sheriff Deputy Jacob Pickett, who was shot in the line of duty today:

Janet and I are stunned and heartbroken over the tragic events today in Boone County today involving Sheriff Deputy Jacob Pickett. Words cannot convey the sorrow we feel for his wife and young children as well as the entire Boone County Sheriff’s Office. I ask Hoosiers around the state to join me in honoring his service and dedication.”

Southport Police Department, which experienced the loss of Lt. Aaron Allan in a shooting last summer, expressed their sadness and support.

The chief of Indianapolis Fire Department expressed sadness at what he and others called “another senseless loss.”

IMPD Chief Bryan Roach expressed his support.

The sheriff’s office in neighboring Hamilton County also expressed thoughts and prayers for the entire office.
