First ever all-women high-5 rally at IPS school
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Women around the community are inspiring children at an Indianapolis Public School by participating in the first ever All-Women High-5 rally.
It happened at the Anna Brochhausen School 88 on East 16th Street.
Women lined up in the hallway to wish all kids coming in a great start to the school week.
IPS Interim Superintendent Aleesia Johnson led the rally.
She says it’s important for young girls to have a positive influence.
“They are people who look like me and who are so excited,” she said. “I might not know them, but they’re cheering me on and rooting for me.”
The High-5 rallies have been around since 2016 thanks to Urban Initiative, a nonprofit agency led by Dr. Preston Adams. The idea is to enhance the quality of life in urban Indianapolis.
