Fort Wayne officers investigating fatal shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Officers were called to 7934 Winston Lane at Preston Pointe Apartments in Fort Wayne around 6 a.m. Friday.

They found a person inside an upper level apartment who appeared to have been shot, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department Spokesman Officer Michael Joyner.

Joyner said paramedics pronounced the victim dead on scene.

Early information gathered by police suggested a robbery may have taken place inside the apartment that led to shots being fired, according to Joyner. The victim lived inside the apartment and was home with his roommate at the time of the robbery and shooting. The roommate was able to make it out of the apartment and notify police.

Joyner said they believe there are two suspects, according to statements provided to police by the roommate.

Detectives interviewed the roommate and are working to put together more information about what happened.

Police have not released a description of either suspect.

Joyner said a K-9 track of the area and canvas of the neighborhood by police officers didn’t find any suspects.

No weapons were recovered, according to Joyner. It’s unclear how many shots were fired or if more than one person fired shots.

Joyner said it’s still being determined if the suspects forced their way into the apartment, or if they perhaps knew the two people who lived inside.

Police have not released the name of the victim.

The incident is under investigation.
