Mild afternoon; rain, wind and cold move in tonight
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Weather whiplash on the way, with temperatures near 60° this afternoon, followed by light snow chances Monday morning.
Today:
Much of our Sunday looks dry and mild! Clouds will increase ahead of a potent storm system that impacts us tonight. Highs top out in the upper 50s to around 60°
Travel issues west:
If you have travel that takes you west, be aware of potential winter weather issues that will lmpact you. Several states are under some sort of weather alerts, including blizzard warnings for the central Plains through tonight. Expect up to a foot of snow in some area, making travel very difficult if not impossible through Monday morning.
Tonight:
Luckily, we won’t have the issues like many to our west will. Same system impacts the area this evening, but we stay mostly on the warm side. Look for showers to arrive near sunset tonight, and continue to push through the area late tonight into the overnight.
Winds will pick up as the system pushes through, with wind gusts over 30mph at times.
Temperatures will turn sharply colder as we head into the morning hours. Some snow showers should mix in with the rain as we head close to daybreak, Monday.
Monday:
Back end of this system will spin up some light snow showers through the morning hours, Monday. Ground temps will likely be too warm for any accumulation, so any concern for the morning drive may be lower visibility at times. Any precipitation chances should move out by lunch time. Temperatures will slowly fall throughout the day – hovering mostly in the lower 30s.
8 day forecast:
Bitter cold temps stick around for the first half of the week. Monday night and Tuesday night lows will fall to the teens, and we’ll likely be stuck in the 20s for highs on Tuesday. A weak wave could squeeze out a mixed bag of precipitation Thursday. Temperatures will modify a bit closing in on the weekend, as highs should push close to 50° with rain chances on Saturday.
