Victim identified in Lafayette homicide

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Lafayette police have identified the victim in Tuesday morning’s homicide on N. Ninth Street.

Police said around 11:30 a.m., officer were called to a shooting that occurred in the 900 block of N. Ninth Street. When officers arrived, they found 32-year-old Wesley Ehrie who had been shot.

Lafayette police said Ehrie was taken St. Elizabeth East Hospital, where he later died from his injuries related to the shooting.

A person of interest fled the scene in a white four-door vehicle. Police said they are looking for a white male in his late 20s or early 30s.

Police said this was a property dispute, and it was not a random shooting. Investigators said the victim and shooter were acquaintances.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time. Police said they are continuing to work towards identification of the suspect and his apprehension.

LPD said this case is being treated as a homicide.
