Westfield police investigating after man dies in parking lot
WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Westfield police are investigating after a man was found severely injured in a parking lot and died a short time later.
Emergency crews were called to the 17200 block of Gunther Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, after reports of a person down in the parking lot.
The 911 call came 45 minutes after Jane Flanders heard something outside her condo.
“First of all, I heard a screaming match,” Flanders said. “I didn’t hear what they were screaming about, and I went to the window, and I saw them screaming.”
When officers arrived, they found an injured man. He was identified as Cory Zimmer, 24, of Westfield and pronounced dead a short time later.
“His face was black and blue,” Flanders said. “His teeth were red. There was blood all over his mouth and nose.”
Police say he was possibly beaten to death. They believe this was not a random act of violence.
This is an ongoing investigation. Zimmer’s death is currently being investigated as a death investigation. His autopsy was being conducted on Thursday afternoon.
Anyone with information on his death is asked to call contact the Westfield Criminal Investigations Division at 317-773-1300 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
