White House unwraps holiday decor

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — First lady Melania Trump on Monday unveiled this year’s White House holiday decorations.

Music from the Marine Corps band filled the executive mansion with holiday cheer. There was no shortage of wreaths, trees and lights.

In the East Wing, a tree honors American’s Gold Star military families.

Along the East Colonnade, eye-popping red berry trees line the hall.

The library and East Room are both decked out with Christmas trees.

The White House says this year’s theme is “American Treasures.” It considers the crown jewel to be the 18-foot Christmas tree from North Carolina that towers over the Blue Room. The Fraser fir is covered with blue velvet ribbons recognizing each of the states and territories.

In the Red Room next door, the focus is on children, including ornaments each stamped with the logo of the first lady’s “Be Best” campaign.

In the Grand Foyer, decorators said the focus is on the treasure of patriotism. Red ornaments of all sizes blanket the hall.

The White House said it hopes people will remember to embrace America’s national treasures long after the holidays have come and gone.
