Woman shot while driving dies; child uninjured

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A woman has died after being shot in the head late Wednesday night while driving on the near northwest side of Indianapolis, according to police.

Police said she was shot through a passenger side window while driving in the 900 block of Belleview Place, near 10th Street, around 10:45 p.m. She lost control, crashing into one vehicle on the west side of the road before hitting multiple vehicles on the east side of the street.

Police have identified the woman as 22-year-old Charese Zinnerman.

The woman was taken to the hospital in “very critical” condition, police said.

A girl between 5 and 7 years old was also in the vehicle, but was not hurt.

Officers stopped several nearby drivers for questioning, but police said late Wednesday there were no suspects.

Officers were originally called to Winfield Avenue, a couple blocks west of Belleview Place, on a report a gunshots. As police were arriving, they heard a volley of gunfire followed by crashes coming from Belleview Place.

No suspect information has been released.
