Woman dubbed ‘Permit Patty’ calls cops on girl selling water

SAN FRANCISCO (WFLA) – A California woman has been dubbed “Permit Patty” online after a video went viral that appears to show her calling police on a young girl selling water.

The incident happened Saturday outside of an apartment building in San Francisco, near AT&T Park where the Giants play. An 8-year-old girl says she was selling water, trying to raise money to help her mom pay for a trip to Disneyland.

That’s when family members say she was approached by “Permit Patty.” The family says she called the police on the 8-year-old for not having a permit.

The video posted to social media shows “Permit Patty” on the phone, trying to hide when she realizes she’s being recorded.

When the woman recording the video confronts her, she says, “Yeah, illegally selling water without a permit?”

The 8-year-old’s mother posted the video on Instagram with the caption, “An 8-year-old selling water in front of her apartment building where she’s lived her whole life is NOT a reason to call the police.”

“Permit Patty” told a local newspaper she only pretended to call police. There is no word on whether she actually called.

The video posted to Instagram and Twitter has since gone viral with thousands of people, including celebrities, tweeting about “Permit Patty.”
