19-year-old dies after backflip into Texas river
SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) – A 19-year-old is dead after he hit his head while doing a backflip into the water at Stokes Park in San Marcos Saturday.
Witnesses say Michael Hughes of New Braunfels was performing backflips into the San Marcos River around 5 p.m. when he hit his head, went underwater and didn’t resurface.
Hughes was taken to a nearby hospital, but he died a short time later.
Stokes Park is a six-acre park owned by Texas Parks and Wildlife but maintained by the city of San Marcos.
