Man found dead in upside-down vehicle in Fort Wayne pond

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — A man was found dead in an upside-down vehicle in a Fort Wayne pond Saturday morning, the Fort Wayne Police Department said.

Police say officers responded to a report of an upside-down vehicle in a pond in the 1300 block of Oak Bay Run at 8:12 a.m. They believe the vehicle had been submerged for several hours.

The vehicle was traveling east on Northland Boulevard at a high rate of speed and continued straight instead of turning onto Oak Bay Run, according to police. It is unclear why the vehicle did not turn.

The vehicle was pulled out of the water at 10:45 a.m., at which point medical personnel located a dead man inside.

No further information about the man’s identity was available.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office will determine the man’s identify as well as the cause and manner of his death.

The investigation is ongoing.
