Pennsylvania lawmaker under scrutiny for confronting Planned Parenthood protester

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – “It was 8 1/2 minutes of some of the most despicable conduct you will ever see from a state lawmaker,” said Jason Gottesman, Director of Communications, for the Republican Party of Pennsylvania.

Grotesque, disgusting, racist. All words Rep. Brian Sims called a woman, with a rosary in her hand, protesting outside a Planned Parenthood facility.

“Who’d have thought an old white lady would be out in front of a Planned Parenthood telling people what’s right with their bodies?” asked Rep. Sims.

Sims started the stream saying he was frustrated by frequent protesters who shame women’s personal choices about their bodies.

“If you’re a white person like I am, we have a lot of catching up to. We have a lot to apologize for, and I’m gonna start by apologizing to this woman,” said Sims.

An apology given, but not the one state Republicans want.

“There’s no need to go out and one: humiliate somebody, two: shove a camera in their face, and then three: start calling them names, especially, and even more importantly when you’re an elected official,” said Gottesman.

“Get me her address, we’ll protest out in front of her home. Let’s go protest out in front of her house and tell her what’s right for her body,” said Sims.

To Gottesman, the behavior is unacceptable.

“You can’t help but believe that Representative Sims here has joined the unhinged left with this despicable conduct,” said Gottesman.

Sims appears to disagree. Three days later, he responded to a tweet calling his behavior shameful. “Bring it, bible bullies! You are bigots, sexists, and misogynists, and I see right through your fake morals and your broken values. #BeReal”
