Race-inspired design: how to work the black/white trend into your home
The month of May in Indy means it’s time to go racing! That coveted checkered flag inspires us to share: How to use Black and White in your Everyday Designs.
A current hot design influence are the colors of black and white. You can find it in patterned tiles, artwork, wallcovering, furniture, marble, and so much more.
Want to give it a try? Danielle Myers, Elle Designs, (along with Harding Racing Driver Gabby Chaves) shares 3 tips to get you started:
{Incorporate a “POP” of Color}
You might want a completely monochromatic color palette of Black and White, but think about infusing the space with one “Pop” color.
This could be a purple hue giving a nod to the Pantone Color of the Year; Violet. Other great options include Race Car Red, Green Apple Chartuese, or Electric Blue.
{Utilize Metals in the Space}
Nickle, Brushed Gold, Iron, and Chrome are all great options to incorporate. Metallics offer the quality of sparkle and reflection which allow a flat color palette to come to life.
You can add this element in a light fixture, hardware on a cabinet, artwork or a mirror.
{Textures & Patterns}
When searching for materials for your space, look at textured and three-dimensional tiles, or patterned tiles.
You can create an area rug out of patterned tiles, and set your kitchen table atop of it; Functional, unique, and eye appealing.
Patterned Wallcovering, Grasscloth or Glass Beaded Wallcovering all offer an unusual element adding detail to the space.
The Indy 500 is ran each and every year, the town is often decked out with the iconic Pace Cars, excited fans, and that sweet sound of race cars going around the oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Let the energy of The Greatest Spectacle in Racing stay with year all year long! Give black and white a try in your next design project.
Every project has a story, what will yours tell? Let us help you write it!
