Indiana Original: Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre
Show your support to the arts community WITHOUT having to leave your livingroom!
Indiana Originals’ Mel McMahon tells us about today’s featured member, Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre!
Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre is the largest of more than 70 Indiana community theatres and one of the ten largest of over 7,000 active community theatres in the United States. Civic also is considered the nation’s longest continuously operating community theatre. Founded in 1915, Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre has been a vital part of the city’s cultural landscape for a century, providing superior live, theatrical entertainment for a variety of audiences.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a substantial impact on the theatre industry, and Civic Theatre is giving you a way to show your support without leaving your living room! Join Civic Theatre for “Ghost Light Cabaret” on Thursday, October 15, 2020. Featuring performances from Civic actors live on the Knebel Stage in the Tarkington, this casual and entertaining gathering will shine the spotlight on highlights from the past decade at Civic’s home in Carmel and will be live streamed! The purchase of your virtual ticket will help raise funds for the Theatre that has lost much of its income from the effects of the pandemic.
Civic’s Executive Artistic Director, Michael J. Lasley said, “We are so excited to have an opportunity to perform live even without an audience in the theatre. We believe that live energy will make this a special experience for our patrons and our performing artists. Ghost Light Cabaret will be an important step towards live ‘in-person’ performances in
the near future!”
The term Ghost Light originated centuries ago. It is small, single bulb light, usually a floor lamp of some sort, that shines on the dark stage when the theater is closed and unoccupied. It is a symbol that theater will return.
For a complete cast list, and to purchase tickets, visit civictheatre.org/ghost-light. Ticket buyers will receive a custom YouTube Live link the day of the performance, Thursday, October 15, 2020.
