Spend Father’s Day Downtown

Wondering what to do with Dad this weekend? Plan a trip downtown for lots of father-friendly events! Amanda Dorman, with Indy Downtown, gave us a full list of ideas for dads everywhere!

For the festival-loving dad

Asian Fest at White River State Park

This free, family friendly event brings the sights, sounds and tastes of all the different cultures of Asia in one festival market place. Bring dad to White River State Park and Indiana State Museum on Saturday, June 20 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. to enjoy cultural performances, food from local restaurants, merchandise vendors and activities (Bollywood dancing and Chinese chess, anyone?). This festival is free.

Brew Ha-Ha outside Phoenix Theatre

Dads are in luck. One of the city’s best beer fests is back for its twentieth year and it just so happens to fall on Father’s Day weekend. On Saturday, June 20 from 3 – 7 p.m., enjoy craft beer from over 50 local breweries in this outdoor block party on the 700 block of North Park Avenue. Tickets cost $30 in advance, $35 day of, $50 for VIP and $10 for designated drivers.

Familia Fest at Military Park

Get festive with dad! Indy’s largest recurring Hispanic-cultural event, Familia Fest, takes place Sunday, June 21 from 1 – 11 p.m. Enjoy music, a beer garden, a kid’s area with games, arts and crafts, bounce house, pony rides and lots of food. Attendees can sample authentic Latin Cuisines from countries like Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico. This festival is free.

For the car-obsessed dad

Dream Cars at the Indianapolis Museum of Art

Dad is sure to fall in love with the rare European and American concept cars from the 1930s through the 21st century. The exhibit examines the dream car through five themes: independent makers, the impact of styling, the Motorama and the rise of the dream car, the influence of automobile shows and the role of concept cars today

Hot Wheels: Race to Win at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

Find more car fun at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis with the Hot Wheels exhibit. This behind-the-scenes look at the world of racing shows the scientific process for designing super-fast cars and offers interactive experiences and authentic race gear.

For the musical dad

Zoolapalooza at the Indianapolis Zoo

Bring dad to the Indianapolis Zoo to not just for the animals and gorgeous backdrop, but also to enjoy great live music, rides and delicious food. The Zoo kicks off its Friday night summer concert series on Father’s Day weekend. Enjoy live tunes from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. While visiting the Zoo, make sure to check out the newest exhibit, Koala presented by Citizen’s Energy Group.

Groovin’ in the Garden at Easley Winery

Easley Winery offers free concerts every Saturday from 2 – 5 p.m. as part of their Groovin’ in the Garden concert series. Catch rock/blues group 3:1 Band on Saturday, June 20. Bonus: The winery will also let you have food delivered from a favorite restaurant.

Live music in the Rathskeller Biergarten

Grab a German brew and listen to live music outside at the Rathskeller Biergarten. Brent James and the Vintage Youth will perform from 8 – 11 p.m. Arrive early for Jamie Kent & Matthew Szlachetka, performing from 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. The event is free to attend.

For the athletic dad

Heroes for the House Run at the NCAA Hall of Champions

Bring active dads Downtown for 5K run/walk on Saturday, June 20 at 8:30 a.m. The Heroes for the House Run begins at the NCAA Hall of Champions and winds through the Downtown Canal. Stay after and enjoy post-race pizza and cookies. Proceeds from the run help provide families with the financial support they need in order for their children to stay at Ronald McDonald House at little or no cost.

Indiana Fever vs. Washington Mystics at Bankers Life Fieldhouse

After your run, head to Bankers Life Fieldhouse to catch the Indiana Fever as they take on the Washington Mystics. Throw on your favorite Fever gear, grab a bag of popcorn and join the entire family for tipoff at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $21 for a great time cheering on your WNBA team.

Monumental Yoga at Monument Circle

Do Downward Dog with dad! The 3rd annual Monumental Yoga takes place Sunday, June 21 at noon on Monument Circle. Arrive early for pre-festival activities including a yoga village with vendors and food artisans, acro yoga and hooping demos and free guided meditation.

For the Colts fan, buy dad a special Father’s Day visit from Blue. Blue will visit dads in their office, school or home and bring confetti, candy, a card and two rounds of golf. Deliveries take place June 15 – 19 and cost $150.

For the foodie dad

Take dad to the new Downtown to Georgia Reese’s Southern Table & Bar for their Sunday brunch buffet from 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. The brunch features some of Georgia Reese’s best dishes, including fried chicken, creole shrimp cocktail, prime rib carving stations, cream cheese stuffed French toast and more, plus local gospel and jazz music.

Give Dad a day off from grilling and visit Weber Grill on Father’s Day for a full dinner menu. Can’t come on Father’s Day? Order the Father’s Day steak package (four 14 oz. certified angus beef boneless rib eye steaks and Weber’s steak seasoning) for dad to grill at home.
