2 firefighters hospitalized after vacant home fire on near-east side
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two Indianapolis firefighters were hospitalized after fighting a blaze in a vacant home on the city’s near-east side Saturday night.
The fire broke out in the area of 41 Parkview Avenue just after 8:30 p.m., according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.
According to IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith, heavy fire was showing from the two-story structure when fire crews arrived to the scene. The fire was under control within an hour.
One of the firefighters fell through a hole in the floor and sustained a possible rib injury. The other firefighter was hospitalized for possible dehydration.
Neighbors told authorities the home had been vacant for some time but reported squatters were seen going in and out of the home. It is unclear at this time what started the fire.
