2-year-old boy dies in Bloomington house fire

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — A 2-year-old boy died after a house fire in Bloomington, the Monroe County coroner said Sunday night.

The fire happened Sunday at a house on Tyler Lane, according to Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields.

Shields said Monday that she could not officially identify the boy, whose mother identified him to News 8 as 2-year-old Kenneth Dale Lane Jr., and that the cause and manner of his death remained under investigation.

The boy’s family called him KJ and he liked to be called “Spooky,” according to his mother.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office on Monday said it was still investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

No working smoke detectors were heard in the home by first responders or found by investigators, according to Riley Harden with the Fire Marshal’s Office. Harden reminded people to make sure they have working smoke detectors and check them monthly.
